freckle-face

he had the bluest eyes i've ever seen and tons of freckles which, of course, at 5-years-old, was very fascinating to me. i had lots of springy curls that he loved and in kindergarten freckles and curls are the things friendships and true love are made of, and so thus a great bond was formed. we were "boyfriend and girlfriend" for years. we went to school together. we went to church together. i loved being around him and thought everything about him was great.

his mom is the sweetest person and she thought we were the cutest. she called me "chatterbox". brett used to tease me all the time about how much i talked. i would get so mad!

in the 3rd grade, one of our friends wrote him a note that said, "do you like kristen?" and it had a yes and no with boxes next to each word. brett wrote definitely. i remember in the 4th grade he decided he wanted to be jessica's boyfriend. i was devastated but i didn't want to stay mad at him so we could still be friends. i hated her for that. he never wanted me to be mad at him. that was true all the time. i would get mad, not talk to him and he would beg me to forgive him.

we sat next to each other in every class. we were being extra talkative and laughing out loud one day in 5th grade math class. i remember it so clear. it was the first day he'd been back to his old self because things had been a little rocky at his house that week. later that evening, my mom told me that brett's father had shot and killed himself that day. it was a terrible time. brett had been so close to him and i thought he'd never be the same.
we were a close bunch of friends, though and we rallied around him. it was difficult but, he got through. his mom and his sister were all so loving and supportive of each other.

brett was so funny and sweet and sensitive and popular. he was very athletic. he played basketball and baseball and he played well. he was so charming and was beautiful. he was smart and he loved his mama.

on august 21, 1994 brett, his 17 year-old cousin and his friend, also named brett, nicknamed "red", decided to rent a movie. they called the video store to hold "reality bites". it had just started to rain, just a little and then stopped. the three of them piled into mandy's little white car and took off. mandy was driving, brett in the passenger's seat and red in the backseat behind brett.

i was at my neighbor's house, sitting on the porch swing. it was a saturday and we were talking about boys and one was coming over. this girl was 2 years older than me, 15, so she had real dates and stuff. my little brother comes running over and tells me that brett is dead. it's not true. i look up and see my dad walking over and then stop. i start walking over towards him, knowing in my heart something must be going on

i'm smelling that damn boy's cologne everywhere. it's obsession. it's choking me. as i reach my dad, i tell him no. he just gently leads me back to the house. i walk into the front door. i collapse inside as i hear the unmistakable sounds of my mother sobbing. she is wailing. no. no. no. my whole family is there. they all believe it. we have to fix this. no. no. no. i don't know what to do with myself. i hate it. i don't want this. this is not the way it's supposed to be. i feel a sense of urgency that i've never felt before. i gotta do something. do something. no. no. no. no. i need to stop this.

it's so blurry. the details. that night, we went to his house and a bunch of us laid in his bed. i remember that. i remember his mom. and mandy's mom. it's the most unnatural sounding grief. but, she was so good to us. she loves us and knew we were drowning in the misery and the hugeness of the situation. in the years that followed, she stayed close to us because it helped her. she came to my bridal shower. i cried.

i have dreams of brett. i think of him all the time. i will never forget him and i will never get over it. i loved him. i love him still. it was an innocence that does not apply in life anymore. i thought he was perfect. he will always be young and sweet and beautiful and innocent. my life would've been empty without knowing him and like the song, "the dance" i know that i could've missed the pain but i'd a had to miss the dance. and there was a dance. one i'll never forget. and i wouldn't have missed it for anything.

happy birthday, freckle-face

Restaurant Meme

Yay! Kelli tagged me for a meme!! For those "non bloggers" a meme is like a survey. No clue what a meme actually means. But those of you who know me know how much I love those surveys. I've never been tagged and I'm so excited since tonight I'm just doing quizes and old memes of Kelli's.

These are the rules of the meme:
1. Link to name of person that tagged you.
2. Include state and country you live in
3. List top 5 favorite local restaurants
4. List 5 other people an let them know they've been tagged

Ok, my first official meme that someone has "given" me *deep breath*. I hope I do everything correctly with the linking and the tagging and all that. Here I go.

(I linked Kelli)

I live in Louisiana, USA a small city right outside of Baton Rouge

1. Bonefish Grill- This restaurant has a few locations in the country (click on it- their website is fun) and it's beautiful. The food is wonderful. The martini (x-rated) was phenominal. I am a major foodie, a big restaurant lover and this one is awesome. The fish is just exceptional.

2. Cheesecake Bistro- Our family loves this place. It's a favorite for birthdays and other celebrations. I love the salads and the wraps. Mom and I usually split both. And, of course, the cheesecake.

3. Rocco's New Orleans PoBoys- A great lunch place. They have excellent shrimp poboys and french fries, pasta salads, onion rings, etc

4. Zea Rotissere and Grill- This place is unique and awesome. I don't really love red meat, I never eat steak and this place has fantastic rotissere chicken. They do all types of things to different meats- simple but delicious. I've also had fish there and it was fabulous. They have a pepper jelly vinegarette dressing that is wonderful.

5. Sno's Seafood- A local favorite, a family favorite, everybody loves Sno's! Except Luke (they don't give him enough fish), of course. The seafood is great here. I love the seafood platter- shrimp, stuffed and regular, soft-shelled crab (my favorite- one of them), stuffed crab, crab legs, fish, gumbo (I don't really care for the gumbo), crawfish tails... They have really good crab au gratin. I just LOVE seafood. It's my very favorite. I could eat fish or shrimp every night.

Eighth Grade Memories

I got this from Kelli's blog. Thought it'd be fun. I promise I'll be coming back with something original soon.
1. Who was your best friend?
Lindsey Lea

2. Who did you like?
Matthew Percy was my bf in 7th and 8th grade. My first kiss

3. What sport did you play?
I was captain of the cheerleading squad and I was head of EVERYTHING else

4. Did you buy your lunch?
no, that wasn't an option. I went to a Catholic school and you ate school lunch or you brought your lunch. You made that choice at the beginning of the year and it didn't change. You could buy french fries or ice cream sandwiches for a quarter

5. It's Friday night, where were you?
At Lindsey's house driving Hollie crazy or trying to get Heather's attention or at my house waiting for my parents to go out so we could smoke cigarettes outside
Or with Lins at one of the many boy/girl parties my class had... breaking up a fight between her and Matt

6. Were you a party animal?
As much as possible in the 8th grade, in middle-class suberbia... no sex, drugs, drinking,

7. Skip school?
Not in 8th grade

8. Did you get suspended/expelled?
Never... the teachers LOVED me :)

9. Can you sing the alma mater?
I don't think there is one and I can't sing my high school one either

10. What was your favorite class?
For sure, English with Mrs Moak. I loved her and I loved her class

11. What was your schools full name?
This is so good- St. Theresa of Avila Catholic School

12. Did you go to the dances?
Ummm, the school had nothing of the sort except at 8th grade graduation. My classmates had parties with music and dancing and I went to those

13. If you could go back in time and do it all over would you?
Definitely! I met Lindsey, I was skinny, I had fun. It was rough because just a little while before we began 8th grade, my best friend, Brett, died in a car accident. I'd been friends with Brett since the day we met in Kindergarten. I thought he hung the moon- I still do. His death was the 1st horrible thing that happened to me and I'm still not over it.

14. What do you remember most about 8th grade?
I remember everything. We went through a lot together because when Brett died there was another classmate of ours in the car too. Our whole class was close so it was difficult for us. The school went from K-8 and most of us had been there that whole time. I remember meeting Lindsey ("You're my new best friend, call me every 5 minutes!") because she worshiped me!!! ;) Matt and I had the funnest relationship and he is so cute. Being a cheerleader was fun but those meanies got together and told on me because "I was too bossy"- can you even imagine???

15. Favorite memory in 8th grade?
Lots of fun on our 8th grade trip (all the way to New Orleans), all the fun with Lindsey (Beau's party, Chip's party...) LSU baseball

16. Where did you go most often for lunch?
The cafeteria. There wasn't anywhere else to go. Ditto

17. What did you do on the last day of school?
I have no idea but, we had an 8th grade graduation. We did a tribute to Brett and Brett (the other boy was named Brett, too) which was so sad because their families were there. We got our awards. I remember that I was wearing a bra that opened in the front and it opened while I was kneeling before communion!!! We were seated in alphabetical order and my friend Kyle and his parents were next to us. His mom and mine are friends and they were dying laughing at me. I was in church, trying to gather the girls together and clasp the bra back- discreetly! And Kyle is about to die because it involves boobs....

18. Did you like 8th grade?
LOVED!!! Of course, Brett's death was beyond awful. I still think of him, love him, miss him, talk about him... But, 8th grade was before things got really BAD. 8th grade was so carefree and fun.

Kristen & Luke

1) Luke and I have been together for 8 years. We have been married for 4 years.
2) Luke and I met the last week of July in 1999 on the beach in Panama City Beach, Florida. We were both there with our families and friends. We met each other the first days of our our week long vacation so, we spent the entire time together. It was a bunch of us, guys and girls, all paling around. We had a blast but there was nothing "romantic" that happened between the two of us, until the last night. On that night, we told everyone we were going to marry each other and I knew in my heart that it was the truth. When I left, it felt like I left a part of myself behind. And I did. Shortly after I visited him in Georgia with my mom and friends. It was quickly known that we were together forever.
3)Luke has so many admirable qualities but, the one I admire the most is his work ethic. He is never ever lazy. He works hard at everything he does. He has worked his way up in his career at an impressive level in a short time. Luke works very hard so I don't have to and that's important because of my health and our belief on childcare. Plus, I admire his massive forearms and freakish strength. And beautiful eyes....
4)Luke and I fight the most about voices/tones. It's not what you say but how you say it. Luke has a very difficult time understanding this sometime. We met when we were 18 so we were babies. We've grown up a lot.
5) I guess that brings me to this question about how our relationship has changed. In so many ways and not at all. Like I said, we were babies when we met so, we've grown up a lot since we've met. So many HORRIBLE things have happened to us in the time since we've been together, too, so that has brought us so close. We've always been very close. We have a very strong connection that is very special and strong. It's something that I treasure more than anything on earth. We have to work very hard to keep it going because of his schedule. I'm willing to do anything to keep our marriage strong. It is not easy. It is a job, a work in progress, every single day until you die. Luke works out of town, nights, weekends, we do what works for US and we don't worry about "other" people.

So close no matter how far
Couldnt be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters
Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I dont just say
And nothing else matters
Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know
Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I dont just say
And nothing else matters
Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters
*a song luke plays for me

Frenchy

This is one of my most favorite people in the world, or two people, actually. She is my French sister, Laetitia. Or LeLe, her nickname. She is pregnant (due in September) with her 1st child, a little boy nicknamed mister bean!! Mister bean is getting bigger. LeLe and her husband, Manu, live in Paris and her parents live ummm, somewhere else in France. My mom knows, she's been there. It's big and beautiful and in the country. I really want to go visit. My family has been friends with this family for many years. The relationship began with my Pa Pa (my mom's dad) and LeLe's dad, Claude, through business. Pa Pa and Mr Claude are like twins, not in looks but in personality. LeLe is so sweet and funny and sentimental and we just have a very crazy but strong connection. I love her so much!! Doesn't she look so great?

Tell Me About Him... And Here It Is

Here's my relationship survey results. I posted each one separately because it was easier. I just copied and pasted what they wrote to me. In green under the pic is my relationship to each person and when each picture was taken (or my guess if it wasn't specified). I guess that's pretty self explanatory. Enjoy!

Sheila & Harry

My mom & dad

(this Easter in Mexico)

O.K. – Harry & I met July 10, 1976 – the weekend after the Bicentennial 4th of July! We dated until May 1977 and got engaged and were married on May 27, 1978. Now, that sounds pretty normal BUT I was only 16 when we met and he was 19 almost 20 and I turned 18 on May 6th, graduated high school on May 11th and got married on May 27th – 1978!!!! And we are STILL married – 29 years later! We are still in love. We have had many, many (who is counting) ups and downs in our relationship and marriage (I think it is called LIFE) but we still enjoy each others company and we love each other. We are entering a new phase of our marriage and sometimes adjustment is hard but we always get through it. Harry was a blind date. I was babysitting for his older sister’s children for several years and his sister asked if I wanted to go out on a date with her brother. I told her yes, but he had to call me first. He did and I did and the rest is history! I have always admired Harry’s generous nature (very, very generous – always – with me, the kids, others and other kids (he is a sucker for kids)) and his loyalty. We fight about family issues – we fought about how to raise our kids (we each have different ideas of course and he has typically been the knight in shining armor dad and made me go out front and be the bitch) and about how to handle his family at times and about how we spend money. We are different in our thoughts on money and how to spend it. We are MUCH better now because we have met somewhere in the middle BUT he still spends more money than I do and can be obsessive about buying certain things – like clothes, guns, guitars, fishing gear, etc. etc. He doesn’t own ONE of anything!!!!! I counted 6 pairs of shorts folded on the ironing board – and he has more in the closet and in the laundry and at least than many at the camp YET he bought a couple of pairs this past weekend. NOW keep in mind he only wears shorts (for the most part) on the weekends – I just don’t get it and NEVER will – why he needs to buy so many!!! Oh well – anyway – that is just how he is. On the flip side of that – he has NEVER said one word about anything I buy or any money I spend. I am the accountant and have always paid the bills and handled our finances – SO it is a good thing I am not like him or we would be broke!!! As far as our relationship changing/growing over the 31 years we have been together (wow did I just say 31 years???? I must be old!!) it has changed up and down so many times I can’t count. We started off our marriage dealing with his mother being ill and in and out of the hospital and it escalated from there. By the time I was 24 - his mother had already been very, very ill and had kidney failure and then passed away 6 weeks before Justin (my second child) was born. His dad had had cancer – twice and a lung abcess. We had both of them in the hospital at the same time – more than once! Harry’s dad even lived with us for a little while to get stronger from his lung abcess for them to do surgery on his lung for cancer. At the time I had a 2 year old and Harry had pneumonia. Of course this was during a time that Harry was building a career and so was I. Lots of responsibility on two young people. That causes strain in your marriage. Then later in our marriage we dealt with some really hard times with our children. During one of the really, really bad times with our youngest child, Harry’s dad was diagnosed with cancer again and this time it was terminal. Harry would go over and care for his dad (he lived 80 miles away) on the weekends and I would stay home and deal with our high school senior and then his dad passed away. The year 2002 will have to go down to being one of the most tragic in our marriage and lives. It took us several years to climb out of it. Life is good today. Who knows what the future will bring?? We both LOVE, LOVE to travel and we get away every chance we get. We also bought a “weekend” escape in 2003 – in Pass Christian, Ms. And in 2005 (after just totally remodeling it) Hurricane Katrina totally demolished it. We have replaced it with another “weekend” escape in south Louisiana, on a brackish water bayou (we love to salt water fish) and we are really enjoying it. Harry has traveled a large part of our marriage for work and he is currently traveling really heavily. This always causes “issues” because sometimes the only time we have to see each other is filled with all the household “crap”. Not much down time and not too much alone time. This always causes a “disconnect” and issues. BUT we can reconnect at our camp on the weekends. It is why we go through all the costs and efforts of maintaining two households – it affords us an escape from everyday stuff. Anyway, hopefully we will be together for always – till death do us part – and hopefully that is a long time to come. But I have learned to never say for SURE what is going to happen. We can only hope and continue to work week by week to get there! The saying: “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” is sooooo true! Everytime something threatens to kill our marriage and everytime something happens that knocks down, we rise up a little stronger and surer!!!

Good luck with your blog – I hope lots of folks respond!!
Love,
Sheila

Kelli & Clay

Kelli is a new blogger friend
April 2005

1) How long have you been married? How long have you been together? We've been together since September of 1994, and married since August of 1996.

2) How did you meet?I went to TCU and my roommate had gone to high school with him, although she didn't know him that well. He ended up rooming with one of her good guy friends at another college, and so we met when she dragged me down there to visit her friend.

3) What do you admire the most about your partner? He can go to sleep in less than two minutes no matter what's going on. And stay asleep even when I'm poking him to get up and help me! :)Seriously though, he's very loyal. He doesn't turn his back on a friend, and even in stores he always wants to work with the same salesman if it's commission-based.

4) What do you fight about the most?We don't really fight in the traditional sense. Mostly I get irritated with him over small things but I end up venting to my girlfriends so I don't have to nag him all the time. Then he gets annoyed with me for airing our dirty laundry, so I guess I better not go into any more detail! :)

5) How has your relationship grown/changed in the years(months)/time you've been together? We were teenagers when we met. Things were much simpler then. Our relationship has gone through a few rough patches where we get into a rut and get bored, or don't take time for each other and grow distant. Overall I think we're closer all the time though, but it's harder to keep it that way now that we have two kids and so much going on. It's certainly worth the challenge though!

Lindsey & Brandon

Lindsey & I have been friends for 13 years

picture taken winter 2006

1. How long have you been married? How long have you been together?
Brandon and I have been married for 5 years. We met February 23, 2001. He proposed on September 25, 2001. We were married May 24, 2002.

2. How did you meet?
I met Brandon through my sister. My sister was dating Brandon's best friend, Chris. One night I went out with my sister and Brandon was with Chris. At the time I was NOT looking for a boyfriend. I was 18 and he was 24. I really did not think it would work out. It ended up being an instant connection. (Hint the 7 month courtship)

3. What do you admire the most about your partner?
I admired Brandon for his dedication to everything he did/does. He always puts forth his best effort. We shared the same morals and values, which is very important to me. And of course, I was attracted to him.

4. What do you fight about the most?
The thing we fight about the most is food. I know it is very weird to fight about food. I am a very picky eater and Brandon is the complete opposite. To make it worse, we are never hungry at the same time. Sometimes we eat supper at different times, having two different meals.

5. How has your relationship grown/changed in the years you've been together?
At the beginning, we had to learn each others ways. We did not live together before we got married. I moved from my parents' house to his house. He lived on his own for a while, with college guys. So, we had to adjust to living with the opposite sex. It was rough. Brandon is a HUGE morning person and I am a night person. He likes to squeeze the toothpaste from the bottom up; I just squeeze. We had to get seperate toothpaste. We had to change a little for the other person to make it work. Then, of course, a major change is when Cooper was born. You learn a lot about your partner when you have children. After Cooper was born I gained a lot more respect for Brandon. He is a fantastic father. I know we have many more challenges ahead and hopefully we will be one of the lucky ones, still together and madly in love.

***UPDATED- the top picture is the way it was BEFORE poor Cooper was cut out.
Cuter, huh?
don't say anything mean, Lindsey Lea

Sarah & Jeremy

Sarah and I went to high school together
engagement picture

1) How long have you been married? How long have you been together?
Jeremy and I have been together for one year and six months. We have been engaged for three months.
2) How did you meet?
We actually met on eharmony. I had signed up for the service, and filled out the personality profile, but had not paid yet. He had signed up previously and we were matched up. He tried to communicate with me, but was unaware that I had not paid, thought I was ignoring him and moved on. His membership then expired, but he still received the emails about matches. Meanwhile, I paid and saw that he had ended communication with me, and sent him a message asking to communicate. Eharmony is a very intensive thorough online matching service and there are several steps you must take before you can see your match's picture or even freely email. He rejoined JUST so that he could talk to me, and we went through the communication stages (I think there were 5,) within 48 hours. We then talked on the phone for a week, every night, for HOURS. We went on our first date on December 9, 2005, and have been together ever since.
3) What do you admire the most about your partner?
I admire a lot of things about Jeremy. He is a very loyal person and a hard worker. He is extremely creative, which I think is so cool, because I am not. Mostly, he knows who he is, and he is not scared of anyone or anything, and I think that is awesome.
4) What do you fight about the most?
We don't really have an "issue" we fight about. We are both control freaks, and typically get in a fight for control. The root of the argument is normally really dumb and trivial. We also have argued more than once because during conversation, again about something mundane, one of us said something in a certain "tone" that the other didn't care for, and made him/her defensive. Then ridiculous arguing ensues.
5) How has your relationship grown/changed in the years(months)/time you've been together?
Jeremy and I sort of did things backwards. We fell inlove, then got to know each other, if that makes sense. We dove headfirst into a relationship, and moved in together after dating for two months I think. So, we have really worked at our relationship, especially because Katrina had just happened a few months before we met and left Jeremy homeless and jobless. We also have really overcome some of our personal faults. Example, I am typically very defensive, especially with men. I was always waiting for someone to hurt me, so Jeremy really helped me see that about myself, and move on from it. I think trust was an issue for both of us, because we had both been cheated on in previous relationships, and so that is something we worked really hard on. It ended up working out for us, despite the odds against us. We complement each other very well, and are not only madly in love but best friends, as well.

Very Interesting...

I hate that I have to post things backwards for them to post in the right order. That's why the shoes are backwards now. I would usually change it but, I'm not in the mood.
I thought the responses were very interesting. Some predictable and some not. Here's my take on the shoes. Keep on giving your opinion if you have not yet. I just had to comment.
A These from VS, I own in black and I LOVE! I want all three colors. They are soooo much cuter in person and surprisingly very comfortable!
B Saw these shoes in the clearance part of the web site an I love them (also come in sparkly black) but, I can't buy them because where would I wear them?? I knew people wuldn't like them. They remind me of Dorothy's shoes but gold.
C I love Kate's comment about chain-smoking, tight-pant-wearing older ladies wearing these shoes. Who do you think I thought of, Lindsey? I had to show these because they cost a fortune and I thought they were awful and wanted to know what other people thought.
D Oh these shoes... Well, I just could not figure out what was going on with them. They came up when I went on a search for red shoes and I think they are very, ummmm, crazy! I think they'd look different on and I am not surprised that everyone doesn't like them. They are by Michael Kors and are ridiculously expensive for crazy looking shoes.
E I love these and own them. They are colorful and were on SALE :)

And We're Voting

I own some. I LOVE some. I want your votes!! Tell me what you think. This is A. Bronze, gold and black wedge from VS.

This is B. Porshe style STEVE by Steve Madden in Gold

These are C. They come in red, gold and silver
These are D. They come in black, too.

Another Steve Madden... E

Now, tell me what ever you want about them. Just one pair, all of them, whatever. Like I said, I DO own at least more than one pair. I'm not telling you that so you'll try to guess or at least like one, cause I don't care so be honest. I'm thinking I know *certain* people will say things about *certain* shoes & me. (EX: Those are so you!)
Now, which ones do you like? Or hate?
Bring it

And I Cried

I'm a loser. Or I'm just really completely hormonal. Or both. This movie, Matilda, on ABC Family made me cry. And it's not at the end yet, where I'm sure the very adorable little Matilda (Mara Wilson) and poor Miss Honey will live happily-ever-after... Oh, no. I've cried because Matilda's parents are so mean to her! Matilda is so sweet! Miss Trunchbull is so horrible and violent! I really HATED when she threw (THREW) the little blond with the pigtails. And she kicked the cat. KICKED a cat. And I cried.
Now of course, fabulously intelligent Matilda and her cool assed friends (including the very endearing Lavender) are running the terrible Trunchbull out of town and that fairy tale is looking like it's coming soon. Just in case you're wondering, Danny DiVito and Rhea Pearlman star as the crazy mean parents and it's based on a book by Roald Dahl. I wouldn't necessarily let just any aged child watch this. I'm obviously not old enough or should have waited until Luke was home. Or changed the damn channel. I know I'll probably have a nightmare about that bitch Miss Trunchbull.
Is it harmones? I CRIED!!!!
Agatha Trunchbull: What are those?
Amanda Thripp: What's what Ms. Trunchbull?
Agatha Trunchbull: Hanging down by your ears,
Amanda Thripp: You mean my pig tails
Agatha Trunchbull: Are you a pig Amanda?
Amanda Thripp: NO, Ms. Trunchbull.
Agatha Trunchbull: Do I allow Pigs in my school?
Amanda Thripp: My mommy thinks they're sweet.
Agatha Trunchbull: Your Mommy is a TWIT.
Harry Wormwood: What is this trash you're reading?
Matilda: It's not trash, Daddy, It's lovely. Its called Moby Dick by Herman Melvile.
Harry Wormwood: Moby What?

*It really makes me mad when I try to FIX something on a post and it doesn't do!! I've tried to put space between the quotes and it's not working. Sometimes there's a fricking football field of space between what I'm typing and other times I can't get it to do what I want and give me a space**

Some People Should Not Be Allowed to Even Have Kids Much Less Name Them

*I got this from a site about very bad baby names. I found it on Kelli's site. Some of it is actual letters people have written and then there are funny comments by the site people (I'm guessing).

There is another section where people send in funny/crazy/dumb names that they've heard. The Red is the comments made by the site person (or whatever). The green me.

Can I just tell you that I was laughing SO hard, out loud, SO hard!

Letters people have sent in:

I used to work with a girl named Kakiya Sharmika (she went by Mikki). Mikki had a daughter who went by Deedee, but her real name was Dezandra Marquesa (a little too close to "disaster" for my taste).Anyway, one day Mikki was filling out a kindergarden application for Deedee, and when she got to the field for middle name, I swear, she actually asked me, "How do you spell 'Marquesa'?" I think in general, it's a good idea to know how to spell a name before you attach it to your child. Reminds me of the time my MIL spelled Louis' name L-E-W-I-S. And then fought with us that she was right!!

When my son was born January 2003 at Rush Presbytarian St. Lukes Hospital in Chicago, there were twins named Thunder and Lightning.

My {acquiaintance's} granddaughter's name is Surrender... as in "surrender to the Lord." Supposedly Surrender is the name of a great, great grandmother who was actually Surrender Lee... and yep, you guessed it, born around the time of Robert E. Lee's surrender.

An {acquaintance} of mine gave her daughter up for adoption, but not before saddling her with this ill-spelled moniker: Brie'Yonna. It's got everything... awful spelling of a normal name, a Y, mid-name capitalization, and an apostrophe. Not to mention that the mother had no idea that brie is a cheese. People LOVE to do this- throw in a "y" and we'll make it look special. No, it makes it look illiterate.

My kindergarten teacher was named Velveethra.

The title above this read "Japenese Monster or Urinary Infection". That made it much funnier.

Questions

What about Bubba for a boy. a great unusual name
Since when did your Ozark shack get Internt access? Or electricity, for that matter?

what about Jackie-O for a girl or Sinead?
Tough call. It all hinges on what hairdo you were planning

One of our "requirements" for a name is that the first and middle initials will sound nice together to make a nickname. I grew up as Brandy to some and BJ to others ....quick and easy nickname that kids may not make as much fun of.
For 15 years poor Brandy never understood why everyone snickered after calling her by her nickname. Or why all those football players asked her to the prom. They were so rough in the back of the limo. Guess they thought she was a different kind of girl.

I think it's good to name your baby a name different from anyone else baby, because there is so many people who have the same name your baby have or it's very difficult. Also, it's hard to name your baby a different name, because when you think that no-one have that name there will be someone who have the same name your baby have when think you have named your baby different. so, you really can't think of any name that's different from anyone unless it's something made up.
I really, really hope English is this person's second or third language, and if she were writing in Albanian or Forsi or whatever she would be so eloquent you'd weep. I laughed so hard at this one.

My to-be husband has a thing for "unique" names. He likes names such as "Veto" and "Enobi". I like what I call "cool" names. Then names such as "Kiki" and "Jack". We were having dissagrements with baby names till I smacked him upside the head and phrohibid him from naming my children.
Well, I phrohibid you from having kids at all.
Although, it is nice to know who originated the slang use of "cool"- it's this lady. (They're what I like to call --big finger quotes--COOL names.")And now we know she's prone to violence against her fiance for wanting to name kids Veto so they can star in Schoolhouse Rock segments about the three branches of government!
Help me Kobi-Wan Enobi, you're our only hope! God, some kiddies have no chance

What is a nature realated name for a boy? I am pregnant with a boy and I already have four girls. My girls are Summer Skies, Autumn Night, April Shower, and Spring Flower. Please help I am due in November. Star Light
Star Light- Star light, star bright, first star i see tonight. I wish i may, I wish I might, let this lady be a mental patient whose "children" are actually straws she stole from the hospital cafeteria. Laughing so hard it hurts

I love names. I think it's horrible what some people do to their children when naming them. I've got naming babies on the brain because of Lindsey's sister, Hollie. She is pregnant for a boy and we have been talking about possible names. Her husband is a jr and he (and his parents) want to name the baby the III and she doesn't. I've sent her some boy names I like. I have lists of both sexes of names that I love. The boy name list for me to use is very short as Luke HATES everything. He wants to name our son Herschel Walker. After this person. Seriously. We do both like Holden. He is a II (not a jr) but says he doesn't want a III. I like Lukas and he said he does, too. We'll cross that bridge when we get there, I guess.

Also, I've been trying to help Lindsey with a girl name. She has one that they love. I love it, too. But, there is a complicated, possible problem that warrents trying to find another girl name. Lindsey and Luke are so much alike in this category. They hate everything, they hated a person named that, that name sounds like this (not good/positive) word. AHHHHHH!! But, she likes a few other pretty names, finally.

Oh, yeah, and Luke loves the name Sunny or Sunshine for a girl. Yeah.

What's Your Color?

What is the darkest lip color that you wear? A lipstick, gloss, glass, stain whatever... What is the color you wear when you are doing the "dramatic" look- or at least the darker lip look?
Don't forget to tell me the whole name and shade (example: MAC lipstick in Del Rio- yes, I have that color). And go ahead and tell me your favorite overall shade, dark or light. But, I specifically want darker colors. I'd LOVE it if you've got a great RED that you've fallen in love with that looks perfect on you. Tell me.....
I have TONS of lipsticks/glosses/glasses and whatever. But, my favorite (RIGHT NOW) lipstick is MAC's Coconutty, lip gloss VS Beauty Rush in Pinked Limonade (they do not go together), Philosophy's the supernatural lip gloss in neutral, and lip liner is MAC in cork.

Remember How I Hated My Hair?

Well I don't anymore bcause I found this. I LOVE Aveda. Ahhhh. I know, I know, this is the 3rd Aveda product that I'm singing about but, it's really fabulous.
I put it in my hair and scrunched just a little, then let it dry all by itself and OH MY GOD the curls :) Perfection. No little baby curls, no 80s perm curls, no frizzy curls... perfect curls and waves all over.
It looked like I spent time doing something to it, curling irons and the like when I did nothing but put in the one product. Oh and the Elixor Leave-on conditioner that I always use but, they have discontinued it (of course!) I realize that probably none of you will benefit from this post because you probably all have or wear your hair straight but, I'm just so freaking excited!
And I really have to keep telling you guys how fabulous Aveda products are and that you should run out and get something.

Cooper: Swimming

This is Cooper fresh out the pool. He is very sleek and cool in his swimming outfit. His face is so damn cute I could bite it off. I'm sure he'd love that. He kisses the phone when he tells you "bye". But, he says it more like "Biiii" (rhymes with high) and he drags out the ending. Very funny. And he says "Peas" for "please" in a way that would make me give him anything. Not that I wouldn't give him anything anyway....

Boy Oh Boy

I haven't yet gotten the hang of posting more than one picture at a time so, all advice is welcome!!

Kerri Russell and Julia Roberts are two actresses that have a few things in common. 1) They both have GORGEOUS hair that I want. 2) They are both really good and two of my favorites.

3) They both just gave birth to baby BOYS!!

Kerri's baby boy is her first child with new husband Shane Deary and I have no clue who he is. The baby, named River Russell Deary, was born on June 9th but announced on Monday.
Julia's little guy was born on Monday and weighed 8.5 pounds. She is married to camera man (is that one word) Danny Moder and they already have those cutie little twins. The new baby has a much nicer name than the twins (Hazel and Phinnaeus- sorry if that's your name, your baby's name, your aunt's sister-in-law's hairdresser's name) Henry Daniel Moder.
Tiger Woods and his little wifey had a baby too but, she's a girl (Sam Alexis) so she didn't fit in with my theme.
Oh, and my best friend, Lindsey's, sister, Hollie is pregnant and it's a BOY! Yay! Lindsey's not Cindy :)

UPDATE

The deadline for the "Reader Participation Survey" has been extended until Friday!! I've received Sarah's, Kelli's and mom's (Sheila's).

Bon said she was in but, I haven't received hers so, I've emailed her to remind her.

I also wanted to tell you MOM to ask DAWN if she wanted to do it.

KELLI, I thought maybe you could ask your friend KATE. Don't put up a post or anything but, just her and one or two other people??? (I hope she doesn't mind that I just linked her name- is that the correct jargon? I'm so new at this. I've kinda lurked around her blog...)

I'm very interested in certain aspects of other people's marriages/relationships. That's why I'm so gung-ho about getting people to do this.

Thanks Sarah, Kelli and mom- you did a great job and have great pictures.

Amy Winehouse-Tears dry on their own on Jools Holland

Here is one song I love from the album.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Listen to This

Amy Winehouse kicks ass. For real. I don't listen to the radio so I don't know if you've heard her or not. But, she's amazing. I kept seeing her and hearing about her and thinking that she looked like a cartoon character.
Then, when i was buying some CDs the other day, my curiosity took over and I listened to the samples. I was just blown away!!
It's jazzy and the beats are great and her vocals are astonishing. I really COULD NOT believe that voice came out of that skinny little punk looking gal with the waaaaay teased hair and the obnoxious tatoos. But, her voice is so amazing and different. That's what I love.
I'm a fan of all different types of music. I love old rock like Fleetwood Mac, Lynard Skynard, CCR, Allman Brothers, etc. I love old country like Willie, Merle, George and Dolly. And new country too. I love old jazz ladies like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. I love pop and rock and alternative and Louisiana stuff. I love stuff like Nirvana, Ozzy, Smashing Pumpkins, Fergie, Justin Timberlake, The Doors, The Who, and my fav Widespread Panic. So, you see, I run the gamut with music.
But, Miss Beehive Winehouse is different and her CD is just fabulous. When I got it in, I was going to get Luke and myself food and I jammed. I didn't want to come home! Luke was on the front porch when I pulled in and he was shaking his head. He does not think it's ok to "car dance" or dance anywhere in public for that matter. And I am really the total opposite. If i'm jamming in the car and I see someone looking- I turn it up and rock on!! Luke knows this. So, when I got out of the car he wanted to know what I was listening to and I told him. He had seen her too but never heard her. He was impressed.
So, have you heard her? What do you think?

I'm a Daddy's Girl (So What??)

If you know me at all, you know that I'm a daddy's girl and that is putting it mildly. Really. If you look it up in the dictionary, there's probably a big ole grinnin picture of me! I ADORE my daddy. And, truth be told, he adores me.

My mom says that this began instantly. I entered the world dramatically- of course- and she says that I had him wrapped around my finger from the moment he saw me. All black and blue and eye swollen and foot turned in, long and skinny and not the beautiful rosy baby every mommy and daddy hopes for. Oh well, this is what they got.

The things I remember about my daddy when I was a little girl is music and guitar. He used to play "Angel Falling to Close to the Ground" by Willie Nelson for me all the time. I loved it and still do so much. It was the song we danced to at my wedding, even though it doesn't have an easy rhythm for slow dancing. I remember lots of guitar playing. He still plays all the time and so does my husband and my brother. I love it. I also love Willie Nelson. My daddy always sends me flowers for Valentine's Day. When I lived in Georgia, I still got a big huge bouquet. It was surprising. The card always says the same thing, "To Daddy's Little Sweetheart" for years. The same message. He called me turkey lips when I was little. He endlessly teased me when I was younger about being sooooo helplessly skinny and not fitting in the ever-coveted blue jean skirt, my leotard and leggings, bathing suits...

For so long, I was so sheltered. I had no clue that everyone didn't have a daddy like mine. That everyone's daddy didn't spoil them to pieces and put them on their laps and sing songs to them and buy them candy and watch Fraggle Rock and make them feel like princesses. It broke my heart when I found out that the truth was my daddy was so rare. And I think it really broke his heart, too. I remember in high school how he got so angry about stories of my friends with neglectful or even hateful fathers (there was a very scary and not so nice incident at our house). My daddy thought every little girl (and boy) deserved a good daddy. Most people really love him. He loves people and has a big heart.

Yes, I'm married. Yes, I'm 26. And Yes, I think my daddy is the greatest man alive. I love my daddy. He is my hero. My daddy does everything for me and we laugh together and he can't stand for me to cry. I know that I am safe and will be okay as long as I can get in touch with daddy. I don't think it's so wrong to be blessed like this.

My dad learned how to be a great dad from his great dad. My mom has a great dad. My uncle is a great dad. Lot's of daddy's girls around these parts. Lots of exceptional fathers to celebrate.

if you would not have fallen
then i would not have found you
angel flying too close to the ground

and i patched up your broken wing
and hung around awhile
tried to keep your spirits up
while you were feelin down

I knew someday that you would fly away
for love's the greatest healer to be found
so leave me if you need to
I will always remember
angel flying too close to the ground

fly on, fly on past the speed of sound
i'd rather see you up
than see you down
so leave me if you need to
i will still remember
angel flying too close to the ground
To My Daddy: I love you!! You are the bestest daddy ever. Thank you for loving me and Justin. Thanks for marrying my mom. Thanks for being a big goof and making us laugh. Thanks for loving mom and showing us what love is. And thank you for having lunch with me or spending time doing nothing with me and acting like it was the best time of your life. You're my hero and I believe you (stupidly) when you tell me how pretty I am. I'm glad Luke is soooo much like you. Know that Paw Paw would be and was so proud of the man/son/father/husband you are.
- Love, Kristen and P

The Diary's Word Cloud

This is called a "word cloud". You go to the site (I got it from someone else's blog) and give them your site address, they put together all the words that are used most often in your blog and VIOLA! You can get it put on a t-shirt or hat or mug or whatever. You can also change any of the words if you don't like them or whatever. I didn't change any of them. I think that, however crazy it looks, it's a pretty fair representation.
Dontcha think?
