Emmy Nominations- UPDATED WITH WINNERS

The 59th annual Primetime Emmy Awards will air on Sunday, September 16th on FOX.
The nominations were announced today and here are some of them, along with my opinions on some. I left out categories about writing, directing, cinematography, make up, hairstyling, mini series, etc. If you want to see the whole list go here.

OUTSTANDING COMEDY SERIES
-30 Rock, NBC **WINNER**
-Entourage, HBO
-The Office, NBC
-Two and a Half Men, CBS
*MY PICK- The Office- This show is funny and smart and well acted. I also think it has a great chance of winning.

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES
-Boston Legal, ABC
-Grey's Anatomy, ABC
-Heroes, NBC
-House, FOX
-The Sopranos, HBO **WINNER** I was right
*MY PICK- hard to say... I have never seen Heroes. I don't think Grey's deserve it this year. Boston Legal is good but, House is my favorite show. The Sopranos will probably win, though. They always do and this is the last year.

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES

-Beau Bridges as Carl Hickey My Name is Earl NBC
-Giavonni Ribisi as Ralph Mariano My Name is Earl NBC
*MY OPINION- I love Giavonni! And Earl. Once again, I am not qualified enough to comment accurately. I don't watch the HBO shows. I do watch Monk and love it. But, Giavonni is great.

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
-Christian Clemenson as Jerry "Hands" Espenson Boston Legal ABC
-Forest Whitaker as Curtis Ames ER NBC
-David Morse as Michael Tritter House FOX
-Eli Wallach as Eli Weintraub Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip NBC
-John Goodman as Judge Robert Bebe Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip NBC **WINNER**
-Tim Daly as J.T. Dolan The Sopranos HBO
*MY OPINION- Not enough info BUT, I saw both David Morse and Forest Whitaker's performances. The former's was not Emmy-worthy in my opinion and the latter was. It was outstanding.

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
-Elaine Stritch as Colleen Donaghy 30 Rock NBC **WINNER**
-Dixie Carter as Gloria Hodge Desperate Housewives ABC
-Laurie Metcalf as Carolyn Bigsby Desperate Housewives ABC
-Judith Light as Claire Meade Ugly Betty ABC
-Salma Hayek as Sofia Reyes Ugly Betty ABC
*MY PICK- Laurie Metcalf OK, who else thinks it's insane that D.H. (and Ugly Betty) are in the "comedy" category? Anyway, I saw all of these performances and they were pretty strong (with the exception of Salma which was just, eh). Dixie Carter did a great job as Mother Hodge and Judith Light is always good. However, Carolyn Bigsby's paranoid, desperate, ragged, "on edge" and eventual murderous character was portrayed fabulously by Miss Metcalf.

-James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano The Sopranos HBO
*MY PICK- Hugh Laurie- If you know me or even have read "The Diary", you know how I adore Hugh. That said, I wonder if the Academy will give James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, etc the Emmy because it's all over for them. (They are nominated for 15)

-Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Christine Campbell The New Adventures of Old Christine CBS
-America Ferrera as Betty Suarez Ugly Betty ABC **WINNER**
-Mary-Louise Parker as Nancy Botwin Weeds Showtime
*MY PICK-Felicity Huffman- This category makes me mad. DH should not be in it so, Felicity Huffman should not be in it. But, I think she is an amazing actress. I think that Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a great comedic actress though.

*MY OPINION- What a category! Incredible talents in this category. After thinking and thinking, my two favorites are Patricia Arquette and Kyra Sedgwick.
